The United States military is adopting new technologies with blistering frequency in order to maintain its status as one of the most sophisticated fighting forces in the world. Here are some of the most noteworthy technology trends in the U.S. military. 1. Hypersonic Missiles According to the Department of Defense, the U.S. military expects to have battle-ready hypersonic missiles by 2023. Hypersonic missiles are projectiles that can reach or exceed Mach 5. Projectiles that can travel this fast are moving at five times the speed of sound. Currently, there are no defense systems capable of stopping hypersonic missile systems once they are in flight. 2. Internet of Military Things (IoMT) The term “Internet of Military Things” refers to a variety of internet-connected devices that can be used by soldiers on the front lines. These advanced pieces of equipment can collect important biometric data, analyze battlefield conditions, and facilitate the strategic deployment of military assets. IoMT devices will allow for seamless data sharing across the entire fighting force.
