How to Plan a Virtual Team-building Event

Remember when your annual team-building event meant spending an entire day out of the office? The most invested organizations would send you off to the countryside with a jam-packed itinerary. You’d partake in trust exercises, hear from inspirational speakers, and play complex strategy games. It was an opportunity to switch off from the day-to-day stresses of the workplace and get to know your colleagues a little better. But since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020, gathering an entire workplace together for the purpose of team-building has been nothing short of impossible. As organizations continue to adapt to the disruption caused by the pandemic, and with many employees now working remotely full-time, it’s anyone’s guess if and when these away-from-the-office team-building days will resume in person. For many, team-building days are approached with caution at best and dread at worst. But following a year of lockdowns, social-distancing, and depleted workforces, perhaps even the biggest naysayers would benefit from some light-hearted interaction with their colleagues.
