Porsche EV Outselling its Flagship Sports Car

Porsche’s first electric model, the Taycan, is beginning to outsell its flagship sports car, the 911, Business Insider reports. The Taycan is in its second full year of production. The German auto manufacturer sold 28,640 Taycans worldwide in the first nine months of 2021 and delivered 27,972 911s in that time. In the U.S., Porsche sold 1,861 units, which topped the 911’s 1,621. The Taycan began as a four-door sport sedan in 2019 and, in 2021, Porsche released a new base version priced at $82,700. Other versions’ prices are $104,000, $151,000 and $185,000. Porsche set a goal for at least 80% of its sold vehicles to be fully electric or hybrid by 2030.
