Study Finds Wind, Solar Could Meet 85% of U.S. Energy Needs

According to the International Energy Agency, or IEA, the share of global electricity generated from renewable energy sources jumped to 29% in 2020 and is on track to break records in 2021. And while it’s still major progress to see nearly a third of all the world’s energy being shifted away from fossil fuels, a recent study suggests there is still a lot of room for growth. Researchers from the University of California, Irvine, China’s Tsinghua University, the Carnegie Institution for Science, and Caltech recently revealed the findings of their study on renewable energy capacity in industrialized nations like the U.S.
