Stratus Plastics International (SPI) recently announced plans to add 40 new jobs to their production facility in Morgantown, Kentucky, with up to 135 new positions planned for the near future. The company makes injection-molded parts for appliances, consumer goods, and the automotive sector. This represents a nearly 500% increase in headcount since the 165,000-square-foot facility opened less than four years ago. The growth is the result of SPI receiving new contracts from a major automaker. Since coming to Kentucky, the company has invested millions of dollars in expanding its warehousing and molding operations. The Canadian company has a number of tier-one automotive customers, with production capabilities in Kentucky and Windsor, Ontario. SPI is also leveraging a performance-based Kentucky Economic Development grant that could provide just over $2.2 million in tax incentives. The final amount will depend on the company’s level of investment, job creation, and the wages earned by the new and current workforce.
